From a religious point of view, the yoga sutra belongs to the brahmin philosophy, which is different from and related to Buddhism.
Brahmanism holds that all things have a supreme ontology - brahman. (emphasis on soul attributes).
Buddhism holds that things have no substance, only reality. (emphasis on the characteristics of the soul).
However, the content of the yoga sutra is basically consistent with the way of buddhist meditation, because yoga is the practice technique of Buddhism. As the President of lyza, Chinese branch of patanjali yoga college in India said, "yoga is the science of soul, the science of practice, the foundation of all religions, the most fundamental principles and methods of practice of all religions are fully explained in the yoga sutra. Yoga is like flour, while the religions of the world are like steamed buns, buns, breads, cakes and so on."
